J/109 Solent Series 2019

The J/109 UK & Ireland is pleased to announce the creation of the “Solent Series 2019”.

In an attempt to focus one design sailing on a handful of key events through the year, we have designated some existing events to comprise the Solent Series. We’ll be publishing results for the series through the year and the series champion will be recognised at next winter’s annual Prizegiving Dinner.
Hamble Winter Series 2018
The series will comprise:
The Vice Admirals Cup, organised by RORC in Cowes and always a very professionally run event with one design racing for J/109s. This years dates are 10th to 12th May.
Portsmouth Regatta, another great regatta which is hosting one design racing for J/109s. The Portsmouth location ensures the participation of the services boats alongside the one design regulars. This years regatta dates are 8th and 9th June.
Taittinger Royal Solent Regatta, hosted by the Royal Solent Yacht Club In Yarmouth. More one design sailing and spectacular entertainment through the weekend. To be held this year from 26th to 28th July.
And finally, on 28th and 29th September, the JOG weekend to Lymington. This will be IRC handicap racing with a dinner in Lymington in the Saturday night.
All the one design events will be held under the recently released transitional rules, allowing those who usually sail under IRC for JOG events to race head to head using their non-overlapping headsails and in-haulers (but not their code zero’s). The final JOG event will be sailed under IRC as the JOG boats will be counting this for their own series results (and may need their zero’s). We hope that in this way we can encourage some of the JOG boats to join the One Design fleet for the early events and vica verca for the final event in Lymington.
Hamble Winter Series 2018
There’s no need to sign up for the series. Just plan to enter the individual events and we’ll track the results.
Other key one design events through the season will include the Warsash Spring Championships (13th/14th April and 27th/28th April), the J-Cup, this year hosted by the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble (18th to 20th July), Cowes Week, this year with a class Barbecue on the Tuesday evening (later than usual from 10th to 17th August) and Dartmouth Royal Regatta (29th August to 1st September).
Of course it’s also a Fastnet year, which this year precedes Cowes Week. We know several J/109s will be lining up on the start line and we very much hope they will be back to join the festivities during Cowes Week.
