Welcome to the class August Newsletter.

Previews of the two big J/109 gatherings happening next week, and round- ups of big weather sailing in the Fastnet and Cowes week

J Cup Dublin Preview

The J Cup comes to Irish shores for the first time next week, and will see 10 J/109s battling it out.  The regatta is hosted by the Royal Irish Yacht Club, in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin Bay.  Racing takes place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August.

Dartmouth Week Preview

At the same time on the other side of the Irish Sea, Dartmouth Week will be hosting 11 J/109s racing one- design. The competition will be re- joined for the podium of the British J Cup in June, with JAGO, Jumping Jellyfish and Just So in the mix. Jukebox, fresh from their class win at Cowes week will be looking to bring their form to the West Country. Local boat Jubilant and Ju Kyu from Plymouth will hope local knowledge plays into their hands. The races are organised by the Royal Dart Yacht Club, Dartmouth Sailing Club and Dittisham Sailing Club. Racing takes place on Thursday 24 - Sunday 27th August.

Racing Recap

Jukebox won IRC3 at Cowes Week, leading a fleet of 5 J/109s in the regatta. Witchcraft were second J/109 and Jenie third.

Blouna were the first J/109 home (16th in IRC 3) at the extremely heavy weather Fastnet Race, with Jago following in 19th and Mojo Risin' in 27th.  7 109s finished, with 5 forced to retire.

Jago are lying second in RORC's IRC 3 season's championships, with Mojo Risin' third and Jybe Talkin' fifth.

Jumunu  are lying fourth in the JOG IRC 2 Offshore series.

Just So are still top of the tree in the JOG IRC 2 Coastal series

In the RC35 fleet, Storm won the IRC2 title at the Royal Ulster regatta on Belfast Lough

At the Volvo Dun Laoghaire regatta  top J/109 was White Mischief, closely followed by Joker 2 and Blast on Chimaera.
